Spotify to Reserve Concert Tickets for Top Streamers via Live Nation Deal

Spotify announced Reserved, a feature that holds concert tickets for premium subscribers identified as an artist’s most dedicated fans based on streams, shares, and other engagement signals. The program launches in the U.S. this summer through a multiyear partnership with Live Nation, offering selected fans up to two tickets and a one-day purchase window. Spotify conceded that superfan demand will far outstrip the reserved supply, so most identified fans still won’t get an offer.

The announcement came during Spotify’s investor day alongside other superfan-targeted features, including Studio by Spotify Labs, a standalone desktop app for generating personalized podcasts and playlists. Separately, Spotify and Universal Music Group unveiled a licensing deal that will let subscribers create AI-generated covers and remixes from participating UMG artists.

The ticketing move is Spotify’s bid to turn listening data into a gatekeeping signal for scarce live-event access, deepening platform lock-in while sidestepping the bot-driven scramble that has defined recent high-demand on-sales. It also raises questions about how engagement metrics translate into fairness, and what privacy trade-offs come with letting a streaming service rank fan loyalty.
