Sony to Wipe 551 StudioCanal Films from PlayStation Libraries, No Refunds

Sony has begun notifying PlayStation Store customers that movies and TV shows distributed by StudioCanal — including Terminator 2, Total Recall, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Cliffhanger — will be pulled from their video libraries on September 1. The company attributes the removal to expiring content licensing agreements and, notably, offers no apology, refund, or compensation. In total, 551 titles are affected; a full list is now posted on the PlayStation website. The story surfaced after a user shared their notification on X, prompting wider attention.

The episode is a stark reminder that ‘purchased’ digital media is functionally a revocable license rather than ownership. The same exposure applies to digitally bought games, not just films — access persists only as long as the seller’s licensing deals and policies allow.
