OpenAI Brings Frontier Models and Codex to AWS Marketplace

OpenAI has expanded distribution of its frontier models and Codex coding assistant to Amazon Web Services, ending a period where its flagship offerings were primarily tied to Microsoft Azure infrastructure. The move gives AWS customers direct access to OpenAI’s reasoning and code-generation tools without leaving their existing cloud environment, eliminating friction for teams that build on Amazon’s stack.

The deal reshapes the competitive picture among hyperscalers, which have spent the past two years differentiating their AI offerings through exclusive model partnerships. AWS, which had leaned heavily on Anthropic and its own Bedrock-hosted alternatives, can now offer customers the full menu of leading commercial models alongside its in-house options.

For enterprise buyers, the announcement reduces the architectural cost of model choice — workloads tied to AWS no longer require cross-cloud egress or separate procurement to access OpenAI’s capabilities.
